The estate, situated near Horezu on the lower slopes of Măgura Slătioara in Măldărești, welcomes you to an authentic kula, where every nook is alive with stories of knights and ladies of old.
Each of the manor’s fifteen rooms has its own tale and is brimming with charming details: authentic historic furniture, traditional carpets, dowry chests, and starched linen.
The kulas: the fortified manors of the boyars of old
Maldăr Manor is an old Oltenian manor, which has preserved intact all the architectural details of the kulas: thick walls, immaculately whitewashed walls, a tall tower, secret passageways, and, above all, an arcaded balcony running the entire length of the upper storey.
With a history going back more than three centuries, the kulas were originally fortified boyar residences, built to defend against Turkish attack that pillaged Wallachia in the late eighteenth century.
The rooms at the manor are fairytale chambers named after princesses of old.
Each chamber comprises a refined whole, in which authentic historic furniture, old beams and traditional carpets combine harmoniously with the most modern of comforts.
In a setting of legend, the talk is long and appetites hearty. Our restaurant will greet you with traditional Oltenian cooking, as well as refined international dishes, inspired from the sumptuous boyar menus of olden days.
A special anniversary or a team-building break: times when you want to invite your friends and colleagues to share a portion of boyar luxury in an ambience of legend.
Tell us how you would like to spend the occasion and we shall take care of all the little details to make it an event to remember.
The wine cellar Conserving the mystery of its ancient brick walls, the wine cellar is the perfect place to spend a cosy evening.
