Day 1 : Arrival in Cluj

Welcome to Romania and Cluj-Napoca, the so-called “treasure town” in the Middle Ages.

Overnight in Cluj-Napoca

Day 2 : Cluj-Napoca- Breb- Sapanta- Sighetu Marmatiei

Today you are going to discover the beautiful region of Maramureş, rich in terms of traditions and cultural life. A narrow road leads us to Breb, a village lost among the hills, with traditional wooden houses lined along the river. Next, we are heading to the Memorial of the Victims of Communism, where we will get acquainted to the dark side of the Romanian communist regime. Our next stop is one of the most famous cemeteries in the world, the Merry Cemetery from Sapanta. Craftsman and artist Dumitru Pop, internationally renowned for his work, will introduce us to the Romanian art of wood carving.

Day 3 : Sighetu Marmatiei- Viseu de Sus- Ieud- Sighetu Marmatiei

How about a chance to discover the scenic landscape of northern Romania, on a delightful ride with a small steam train called mocanita? You won’t be disappointed. Lunch will be taken in the middle of the nature. During the afternoon we will visit Romania’s most well-known churches in Maramures, under Unesco protection: the Small Church from Ieud and the church from Poienile Izei. The day ends with a party where local musicians will present the Romanian customs.

Day 4 : Sighetu Marmatiei- Moldovita- Sucevita

Our journey around northern Romania continues with the neighboring region, Bucovina. Here you’ll find out more about Romanian local traditions and you’ll admire Bucovina’s heritage, the painted monasteries, combining Romanian art with the Byzantine spirit. Today’s itinerary includes two of the highlights: Moldovita and Sucevita monasteries.

Day 5 : Sucevita - Marginea - Voronet - Gura Humorului

Not far from Sucevita is the only place in Europe and the second worldwide where black pottery is produced. The local craftsmen will reveal a few secrets of this art. The day continues with a visit to Romania’s most renowned monastery: Voronet, a jewel of the UNESCO northern heritage whose frescoes -featuring an intense shade of blue- have become famous throughout the world.

Overnight in Gura Humorului

Day 6 : Gura Humorului - Cluj Napoca

We leave the spectacular landscapes of Bucovina behind, cross the mountains and head for the airport.
