Bran Castle is a simple castle compared to all the other castles in Romania. The connection with Dracula is only in the book, Vlad Tepes’s residence was Poenari.
If you want to see a place full of history and explore a real castle, Bran Castle is a must and so is Peles Castle. The second one is truly a masterpiece, a historical jewel. One of the most impressive castles from what I’ve seen in Romania. Too bad that I couldn’t see more of it.
I booked this tour in October 2015. I had a night tour at Bran Castle and it was more than I could ever imagine. I saw the movie and I wanted for a long time to visit the places where Dracula lived, especially the Dracula’s Castle. I liked the spooky atmosphere created by the dim light, the dark rooms, the secret passageway, the fact that Vlad, the terrifying villain lived there. I didn’t see any ghosts, nor vampires but the castle still gave me a spooky feeling.
This tour followed for sure the footsteps of Dracula. I liked our tour guide Maria, the places we saw, the stories we heard. The most difficult thing seemed to be climbing the 1480 stone steps up to the Poenari fortress. I don’t know if the weather makes it harder since we went in the summer in 2014. Iulia Hașdeu’s Castle, I remember it had a strange story and it felt a little bit strange when we entered, maybe it was just the story our guide told us.
